Our educational system offers equal opportunities for education for all. Our area has high-level competence at all levels of eduacation. After comprehensive school, it's possible to choose your own path either in secondary or higher education studies according to your own interests. 

In educational institutions in our region, you can study for a profession or acquire additional training in vocational schools, universities of applied sciences or universities, for example.

Luleå University of Technology

Luleå University of Technology was established in 1971 and celebrated its 50th birthday in 2021. Nowadays it has 17,200 students today and 1700 staff members. With nearly 70 different research subjects and four campuses, the University has grown into a major player to meet  challenges in modern society.

The University of Oulu, founded in 1958, is one of the biggest and most multidisciplinary universities in Finland. It has 13.500 students, staff of 3.400 and 8 faculties.

University of Umeå and Luleå University of Technology offer education in Campus Skellefteå. Umeå University has organized courses in Skellefteå for more than two decades, with educational programmes that admit students every year.

Lapland University of Applied Sciences is the northernmost UAS in Finland and in the EU focusing on higher education and research, development and innovations. Lapland UAS has three Campuses: Rovaniemi, Kemi and Tornio. Lapland UAS educates professionals for working life. Established in 2014, it has 5.500 students.

Oulu University of Applied Sciences

Over 9 000 students, including over 350 international degree students, ensure that Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) is a vital and innovative place to study. It offers three Bachelor's degree programmes and five Master's degree programmes taught entirely in English. You can also carry out studies in different fields at the Open University. Brahe

Brahe (VET) is a multidiscipline, vocational eduacation centre for young people and adults with over 100 degrees in Raahe and Ruukki. The average length of a training programme is three years, which gives students an initial vocational qualification and the skills to work in the employment of one’s choice. All education and training is given in Finnish.
